On March 2, 2021, a report on European Projects dedicated to the OUTBIOTICS 2018-2021 Project (https://outbiotics.unizar.es/) was published in the weekly supplement Tercer Milenio of the Heraldo de Aragón newspaper.

The objectives of the OUTBIOTICS Project are to eliminate or reduce antibiotics in waters of the POCTEFA territory (Spain-France) through the development of innovative technologies based on inert nano and micromaterials.

The article focuses on the excessive use of antibiotics in animal feed, which ultimately causes antimicrobial resistance as a result of pollution produced in rivers and the environment by livestock farms. That is why one of the objectives of the Outbiotics Project is the replacement of antibiotics with silver-based nanomaterials for use in livestock production as a food additive, verifying their efficacy, biosecurity and environmental impact.

Tercer Milenio is a weekly Science, Technology and Innovation supplement of Heraldo de Aragón, in which popular science articles have been promoted and published since 1993. In collaboration with the Government of Aragon and ITAINNOVA.

The GEAS group (https://geas.unizar.es) is the coordinator of the OUTBIOTICS Project and actively participates in its scientific objectives.
